Desmond and I spent several months preparing for his proposal to Rachael at Lake Louise. We wanted to keep the preparations a surprise for her. The lake is in Banff National Park, with snowy mountains across the turquoise water and evergreen trees along the shore.

Lake Louise was crowded that day. We were nervous as we looked for a suitable spot and worked together to keep the preparations quiet. The whole process was exciting and fun, but it also felt rushed. There was a lot to organise without spoiling the surprise.

Desmond kneels in front of Rachael and holds out the ring. She brings a hand to her face, then reaches towards him. The closer photographs show him placing it on her finger. There are smiles and hugs beside the lake. Rachael also raises her ring hand for an instant camera, with the snowy mountains behind her.

They walk hand in hand beneath the trees, stop for a kiss and jump together on the forest path. Some pictures show them with the trees and lake around them. Others move closer to their embrace and the ring against their sleeves.

Along the rocky shore, they hold hands, look across the lake and sit together by the water. This part of the session moves between wide mountain views and closer portraits. The lake stays in view as they turn towards each other or sit on the rocks.

The final photographs stay by the water, with linked fingers, an embrace beside a tree and a few portraits on the rocks. The last picture shows Rachael’s ring hand resting over Desmond’s hand on a stone. Explore our engagement photography for more couple and pre-wedding sessions.
