PHOTOGRAPHY · FILM · FAMILY
Your wedding, thoughtfully planned.
Photography and film, with a shared way of seeing your day. A little clarity before the day leaves more space to be present. Here are the questions we discuss with couples planning a Vancouver wedding, from choosing a photo and film team to bringing family traditions into the celebration.

01 / OUR PHOTO & FILM TEAM
One team, two ways to remember
Who is behind 123CHEESE Vancouver?
We are Grass Tso and Wing Lam, a husband-and-wife creative team working across photography and film. Our shared approach is to notice what matters without turning your wedding into a production. We plan together, then shape the photography and filming roles around the coverage you choose.
What does adding wedding film bring to our photographs?
Photography preserves the gestures, details and expressions you can return to in a single frame. Film adds movement, voices and the atmosphere around those moments. Booking photography and film with us brings those two ways of remembering into the same creative approach. We coordinate the photographs, moving images and key audio around the moments that matter to you. The team and coverage are agreed through your chosen collection.
What are the benefits of having two photographers?
A second photographer can cover another perspective while the main photographer stays with the couple: a parent’s reaction, guests arriving, or preparations at another location. Different viewpoints can tell more of the same moment, including reactions you may not have seen yourself. This can be useful for a larger celebration or overlapping preparations. If you also choose film, we plan the photography and filming together. We will map out the priorities and travel before recommending the coverage; an additional photographer does not automatically provide full photo and film coverage at every location.
Why choose photography and film from the same team?
Our biggest advantage is a familiar working rhythm. We know how the other person moves, where they are likely to frame a shot, and when to step aside. We agree who gives direction and coordinate around each other’s lenses and microphones, helping reduce blocked views, repeated instructions and asking you to repeat the same action for another camera. Photography and film can share the moment while each person focuses on their own craft. For you, that means fewer interruptions and more room to enjoy what is actually happening.
02 / FAMILY & CHINESE TRADITIONS
A day that belongs to your family
Can we blend Chinese traditions with a Western ceremony?
Yes. A tea ceremony, door games, a change into a qun gua, a civil or religious ceremony and a reception do not need to follow one fixed formula. Tell us which traditions matter to you and your families, and which you would prefer to simplify. We will discuss their photographic and filming needs alongside the rest of your day, without assuming that every Chinese-Canadian family celebrates in the same way.
Our families have different expectations or speak different languages. How should we prepare?
Whether you grew up in Canada, recently moved here, or have relatives travelling from overseas, start by sharing the names, relationships and preferred languages of the people involved. A trusted relative or coordinator can help with introductions and ceremonial instructions. We will agree how to communicate before the wedding, including any language support that may be needed; you should not have to translate every instruction while trying to enjoy your day.
What helps a tea ceremony run smoothly for both photos and film?
Share a serving order and the number of relatives, and nominate someone who knows the family to call the next pair. Prepare the tea, cups, seats and any cushions nearby. Leave clear space around the couple and elders so we can see the exchange without blocking guests. If recording spoken blessings matters to you, tell us in advance so we can discuss microphone placement and reduce competing music where practical.
How much time should we allow for traditions and family portraits?
We estimate from your actual serving list, group-photo combinations, outfit changes and locations rather than promise one universal tea-ceremony duration. Build in room for greetings, jewellery, movement between rooms and a late arrival. For family portraits, a short list of named groups and someone to gather relatives are more helpful than an open-ended request to photograph every possible combination.

03 / TIMING, WEATHER & FEELING COMFORTABLE
Make room for the real moments
Can you help us plan a photo and video timeline?
We can help identify the coverage priorities, portrait light, audio setup and transitions that affect our work. Start with the fixed ceremony and reception times, then add preparations, traditions, travel, family groups and portraits. Allow for parking, loading and the actual route between locations. If you have a planner or coordinator, we will work with their schedule; photography advice does not replace managing all your wedding suppliers.
What happens if it rains in Vancouver?
Let’s agree an indoor or sheltered portrait option before the day and check that your venue permits photography and filming there. A covered entrance, window-lit room or a short outdoor break may give us useful alternatives. We will adapt to conditions, comfort and safety. Location access, permits and any extra fees should be checked in advance rather than assumed to be included.
We are not used to being photographed. Do we need to practise posing?
No. We can give clear, simple direction when it helps, then leave space for you to interact. Tell us if you prefer fewer people watching, need a break, or feel uncomfortable with a particular pose. We want the photographs and film to feel like you, including the quieter moments—not a performance of what a wedding is supposed to look like.
Can you record vows, speeches and family blessings?
Our film coverage includes planning for important sound as well as pictures. Let us know which spoken moments matter and introduce us to the officiant, venue or DJ where relevant. Access to their sound equipment and permission to place microphones need to be arranged. A short highlight film is a selective story; full-length ceremony or speech edits should be confirmed in your chosen collection rather than assumed.
04 / CHOOSING YOUR COVERAGE
Start with your day, then choose the collection
How do we choose hours and team size?
Send us your date, locations, approximate guest count and the moments you want preserved. We can then explain which collection fits your plans and where additional photographic coverage or film would add value. The right fit depends on overlapping events and travel as well as guest numbers. Current collection prices and inclusions are on our Packages page; your agreed booking details define the final coverage.
How do we book wedding photography and film?
Start with your date, locations and the moments you want covered through our Contact page. We will check availability and discuss the collection and team that fit your plans. Our current combined photo and film collections require a signed agreement and a 50% retainer to secure the date. We review your timeline and priorities before the wedding; travel and accommodation for coverage outside Vancouver are confirmed in advance. See the current photo and film collections for the booking terms that apply to them.
What do the photo and film collections deliver, and when will our images arrive?
The current Essential and Signature Photo & Film collections include professionally colour-corrected images delivered within twelve weeks through a private online gallery, and a three-to-five-minute cinematic highlight film in 4K UHD. The twelve-week period stated on the collections page applies to images; confirm the film delivery timetable in your booking. Preview photographs, teasers and other additions depend on the collection and options you choose. Check the current inclusions and prices, rather than assume these terms apply to family sessions, photography-only coverage or every booking.
Can we choose the colour style of our photographs?
Our Photo Styles page lets you compare our available colour presentations using the same scene. Use it to tell us what feels closest to you. Light, weather and the colours in each location still influence the final image, so a palette is an overall direction rather than a promise that every photograph will look identical.
Can some wedding photographs stay private?
Tell us your preferences before booking so we can agree what may appear in our portfolio and what should remain private. We can separate an approved public introduction from a password-protected album where appropriate. A password limits access, but someone who has it can still save or share what they see; we should agree the level of privacy you need rather than treat a password as an absolute guarantee.
